Somers High’s “Almost, Maine” Cast Creates Live News Segment

Somers Theater Program Shines with “Almost, Maine” Production

Somers High School’s fall production isn’t a football game, but the theater ⁤program is generating⁢ just as much ⁢excitement. ​What began as a brief promotional visit from News 12⁣ on Friday unexpectedly‍ blossomed into ‌a live, two-minute segment showcasing ‌the cast ‌and crew’s dedication and community spirit.

The students ⁣are presenting John‍ cariani’s 2004 play, “Almost, Maine,” a series of​ heartwarming ⁢and sometimes heartbreaking stories centered⁣ around love and ⁣loss in the uniquely named town ⁢of Almost. The production ⁣opens Friday evening,⁣ following an afternoon of final preparations.

During the impromptu live appearance, cast members expressed their passion for the project. “I think our cast has a really unique outlook,” said⁣ actress ⁤Fiona ⁤Sledzik. “We’re really passionate‍ and we really care about the show – that’s hard to find in a ‍high school production. Please come⁤ see ​it and it’s going to be an amazing show.”

The energetic segment featured the‌ cast and crew dancing‍ and singing, not as a preview of the play (which‍ is‍ not a musical), but ‍as a ‍way⁣ to build‌ excitement for the weekend. Jenna Yager, the ‍show’s ⁤audio technician, highlighted the strong bonds⁢ within the theater program. “The camaraderie…has made⁢ them all better actors and production​ technicians,” she explained.

The⁤ team is also keeping things ⁣light with a ⁤playful tradition:​ the “Paper⁤ Plate” award,a humorous gift to be presented to an underclassman ⁢at⁤ Saturday’s wrap party‌ held at a local diner. “It’s mainly just ‍to make​ fun and poke fun at everything that was going on during ⁣the production,” Yager said with a laugh.

Tickets for “Almost, Maine” are available for $8‌ and can be purchased ⁣for showings on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Don’t⁤ miss the chance to support Somers High School’s talented theater students!
