Trump Calls for Inquiry into Clinton’s Ties to jeffrey Epstein
WASHINGTON D.C. – November 15, 2023 - Former President Donald Trump is calling for a renewed investigation into Bill Clinton’s connections to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey epstein, escalating a long-running effort to deflect scrutiny over his own past association with Epstein. Trump made the demand on his Truth Social platform, urging attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to investigate Epstein’s “involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton.”
Trump’s post also named former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, banking giant jpmorgan Chase, and “many other people and institutions,” alleging they spent significant time with Epstein, including on his private Caribbean island. He claimed, “Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his ‘Island.'”
The call for investigation comes despite previous scrutiny of Clinton’s ties to Epstein, which included travel on Epstein’s private plane. However, Clinton has never been accused of any wrongdoing in the scandal. Emails reviewed by AFP news agency show Epstein himself stated Clinton had “never ever” been to his private island.A Clinton spokesperson asserted the emails “prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing,” dismissing Trump’s claims as a distraction from his own political setbacks.
JPMorgan Chase, which settled a class action lawsuit brought by Epstein victims for $290 million (€250 million) in 2023, also refuted trump’s assertions. The bank stated the government possessed damaging information about Epstein’s crimes but failed to share it with financial institutions, expressing regret for its association with Epstein while denying complicity in his crimes.
The Justice Department previously stated in July, via an FBI and Justice Department memo, that there was no evidence to justify investigating uncharged third parties. Though, on Friday, the department announced it would fulfill Trump’s request, with attorney General Bondi appointing Jay Clayton, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, to lead the investigation.
Trump himself has faced questions regarding his decades-long friendship with Epstein. He has labeled such inquiries an “Epstein hoax,” notably after the emergence of emails suggesting Epstein believed Trump “knew about the girls” and spent time with one of the victims at his residence. Trump has denied these claims, stating, “I no nothing about that,” and asserting he had a “very bad relationship” with Epstein for many years.
Epstein died by suicide in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The ongoing questions surrounding his alleged sex trafficking ring, and the involvement of powerful individuals, continue to fuel controversy and investigations.
