Curaçao on Brink of Historic world Cup Qualification After Dominating Bermuda 7-0
Willemstad, Curaçao – Curaçao is poised to secure its first-ever berth in a FIFA World Cup following a commanding 7-0 victory over Bermuda today, November 14th. the win, coupled with a surprising draw by group rival Jamaica against Trinidad and Tobago, propels Curaçao to the top of group B in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The island nation, coached by Dick Advocaat, now holds eleven points, one ahead of Jamaica with only one match remaining. A win or draw against Jamaica on the night of November 18-19 (2 a.m. Dutch time) will guarantee Curaçao direct qualification for next summer’s tournament. Only the group winner receives an automatic ticket; the runner-up will enter intercontinental play-offs.
The Bacuna brothers, landro and Juninho, ignited Curaçao’s offensive onslaught, scoring the team’s first two goals – Landro converting a penalty. Bermuda, yet to register a point in the qualifying series, conceded further goals from Jordi Paulina (two, one a penalty), Sontje Hansen (formerly of Ajax and NEC), Arjany Martha, and Roshon van Eijma of RKC Waalwijk. Curaçao entered halftime with a 2-0 lead, before extending their advantage considerably in the second half.
