Sen. Ossoff Investigates Potential Service Cuts at ‌fort Gordon’s Eisenhower‌ Army Medical Center

FORT GORDON, GA – Senator Jon Ossoff has launched⁢ an inquiry into reported plans too ⁣reduce services at Dwight D. eisenhower Army Medical ‍Center (DDEAMC) at Fort Gordon, raising concerns about increased ‍strain‌ on ⁤the Augusta Veterans Affairs Medical Center and surrounding hospitals. The inquiry comes as Georgia hospitals are already grappling with financial pressures stemming from recent Medicaid cuts.

ossoff’s office ⁣confirmed the inquiry following reports of potential reductions at ‍DDEAMC, which currently operates approximately 60 inpatient beds,‌ 6⁢ operating rooms, and hosts 80 residents across five graduate medical‌ education ⁢programs: Family medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Surgery, and Transitional Year.

“Any potential reductions in care at DDEAMC ‍risks putting further strain on the Augusta Veterans⁤ Affairs Medical Center and surrounding hospitals in the region,” a statement from Ossoff’s office reads. ⁤The Senator is also⁣ seeking details regarding ⁢potential service reductions at Naval Hospital ⁣Jacksonville and ⁤Naval hospital Beaufort.

The reported plans‌ coincide with⁤ closures and potential cuts at ‍other Georgia hospitals attributed⁢ to Medicaid reductions enacted in President Trump’s budget ⁤law. Last‌ month, St. mary’s Sacred‍ Heart Hospital’s Labor & Delivery unit and Clear ‌Creek OB/GYN‌ closed, with officials stating the Medicaid cuts “solidified” ⁣their decision. In August, ⁢Evans memorial Hospital warned it may have to cut its Intensive Care unit (ICU) ‌due to the same financial pressures.

Sen. Ossoff emphasized the importance of protecting DDEAMC, stating,⁢ “I strongly urge DHA protect Eisenhower Army Medical Center from any proposed ‍cuts to care.”

Ossoff has⁣ a history of‌ advocating ⁣for Fort Gordon and its military families. Last January, two of his bills became law to authorize construction of a new child growth center and upgrade classrooms at the Cyber Center‍ of Excellence. In 2022, ⁢he led‍ a‌ bipartisan investigation into ‍mistreatment of⁣ military families ‌living in privatized housing on Fort‌ Gordon, uncovering⁣ instances of misconduct.
