‘Shogun‘ Adds Five to season 2 Cast as FX Hit Prepares for Return
FX’s critically acclaimed historical drama Shogun is bolstering its cast for a second season, adding Hyūga Kaneta (Sho Kaneta), Hidenobu Sho (Hidenobu), Takaaki Enoki (Lord Ito), and Jun Kunimura (Gōda) to the ensemble. The announcement comes as the series, based on James Clavell’s novel, prepares to continue its saga ten years after the events of its first installment.
The new additions join returning stars Hiroyuki Sanada as Toranaga and Cosmo Jarvis as Blackthorne, alongside Fumi Nikaidô (Ochiba), Shinnosuke Abe (Buntaro), Hiroto Kanai (Omi), Yoriko Dôguchi (Kiri), Tommy Bastow (Alvito), Yuko Miyamoto (Gin), Eita Okuno (saeki), and Yuka kouri (Kiku). Shogun‘s first season captivated audiences and critics alike in 2024, becoming FX’s most-watched show ever and earning a remarkable 18 Emmy nominations.
Season two will be directed by Hiromi Kamata, Takeshi Fukunaga, Justin Marks, Anthony Byrne (Say Nothing), and Kate Herron (Loki). The writing team includes co-creators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, as well as Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Maegan Houang, Emily Yoshida, Caillin Puente, and Sofie Somoroff.
The first season of Shogun broke barriers at the 2024 Emmys, with Hiroyuki Sanada becoming the first japanese actor to win the award for best lead actor in a drama series, and Anna Sawai making history as the first actress of Asian descent to win best lead actress in a drama series.
