Sacred 2‘ Remaster Launches Today, Reviving Beloved 2008 Action RPG

After years of anticipation, Sacred 2, the 2008 action RPG from Ascaron Entertainment, is available today fully remastered for PC via Steam. Developed by HandyGames, a THQ Nordic studio, the remaster boasts enhanced visuals, quality-of-life improvements, and support for modern resolutions.

The re-release arrives as interest in classic action RPGs continues to grow, offering a nostalgic experience for longtime fans and a new entry point for players unfamiliar with the original. Sacred 2 distinguished itself with a vast, open world, a diverse cast of characters, and a blend of hack-and-slash combat with deep RPG customization. This remaster aims to preserve the core gameplay while addressing technical limitations of the original release.

Franz Stradal, one of the original creators of the Sacred series, recently shared in a developer diary for the remaster that this is “not the end, it’s just the beginning…there are so many things we have planned for Ancaria‘s future, and we have so many stories to tell.”

The original Sacred series saw follow-up titles Sacred 3, developed by Keen Games, and the side-scrolling action brawler Sacred Citadel released by Deep Silver. However, Stradal was not involved in those projects, suggesting a potential return to the series’ roots with future installments.

Early Steam reviews for Sacred 2 Remaster have been largely negative, citing bugs and crashes. THQ Nordic has not yet commented on these issues, but hopes remain that patches and updates will address the problems and allow the series to experience a full revival.
