Michigan Wolverines Overtime Win vs. Wake Forest in Deacon-Wolverine Challenge

Wolverines Secure Overtime Win Over Wake​ Forest, 90-84

DETROIT, MI​ – Teh University⁢ of ⁣Michigan men’s basketball team battled to a 90-84 overtime victory against Wake ‌forest⁣ Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena, improving ⁤to 2-1 on the season.The Wolverines overcame a seven-point ⁢deficit with ⁣4:14 remaining in ​regulation to force the extra period.

Michigan started ⁤strong, building an early lead ⁣with contributions from ⁢Dickinson and Lendeborg. After a⁢ Wake Forest surge, the Wolverines regained the advantage on a second-chance layup by Nimari Burnett, taking a⁢ 22-21 lead. U-M capitalized on foul trouble for the⁢ Demon Deacons, scoring eight⁤ of ten points from ⁣the free-throw line and extending ​their lead to six before halftime.​ A dunk by Tarris Reed Jr. helped propel ‌Michigan to a 47-34 lead at intermission, ⁢fueled by double-digit scoring⁣ performances ⁤from​ Dug ​McDaniel and Olivier Nkamhoua.

Wake Forest clawed back in the second half, eventually tying the game at 79 with under ‌a minute to play. After trading baskets, the game headed to overtime tied at 81. In overtime, Michigan outscored Wake Forest 9-3, securing the win.

Olivier​ Nkamhoua led the Wolverines with ⁢a dominant ⁢performance, recording 18 points, 13 rebounds, ⁣six assists, and five blocks ⁢- becoming just the fourth Division I player‌ in the last 20 years to achieve those numbers in ​a single game.Dug McDaniel added 21 points, while Jaelin ⁣Llewellyn contributed‌ 14.

Wake Forest committed a program-record 29 fouls. dug McDaniel reached‌ 400 career assists and 200 career rebounds, setting ‍a new⁢ career high with 11 free throw attempts. Burnett made his⁢ 70th ​consecutive start, while Nkamhoua grabbed his 200th career rebound​ and set a new career⁢ high ⁤with‌ six‍ assists and matched⁤ a‍ career ⁤high with five blocks.LJ⁣ Cason also achieved career highs⁢ with six made free throws on eight attempts.

Michigan improves to 4-0 at Little Caesars arena since its opening in September 2017. This overtime victory marks the program’s first⁤ since an 80-76 win against⁢ Northwestern last season.

The ⁣Wolverines will next travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to ⁣face TCU on Friday,‌ November 14, at Schollmaier Arena. Tipoff⁣ is scheduled⁣ for 8 p.m.​ CT and ‌will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
