John Prine Tribute Concert: Quincy Event for Local Music Lovers

Local Musicians to Honor john Prine in‍ Benefit ​Concert for plumas Arts & KQNY

QUINCY, ‌CA – november 8, 2024 ⁣ – Plumas County’s vibrant music scene will take centre stage this weekend as 21 local musicians prepare to perform the songs of‍ the late, legendary John Prine in a benefit concert for Plumas Arts and Plumas Community Radio (KQNY). The performances⁢ will be held Friday and ​Saturday, November 14th and 15th, at Quincy’s Town Hall theatre.

The ⁣event, emceed by Will Lombardi, will ‌feature electric and​ acoustic interpretations of⁣ over 30 ⁣songs spanning Prine’s acclaimed career. Organizer Tommy Miles notes this is ​the⁣ latest in a series of ‍fundraising concerts, though it’s been 13​ years ⁢since ⁢the last one. “It’s been a while,like ⁣13 years,since we’ve⁣ done one of these things!” he said.​ Previous benefit concerts have celebrated‍ the music of artists like Neil Young, Crosby Stills & ⁣Nash, Bob dylan, and​ a⁢ “Soul Jukebox” tribute to artists including Aretha Franklin and ⁣Ray Charles‌ – all performed by Plumas County⁣ talent.

“It’s a⁢ great chance for folks to come out and see thier local musicians and hear ⁣some great ⁤music, ‌all while helping out two nonprofits⁣ that promote music ​in ⁤our area,” Miles explained. “Not⁣ only that, the‍ musicians get to ‍make new connections with like-minded performers.”

John​ Prine, who passed away in 2020 due to complications ⁢from COVID after twice surviving cancer, is widely considered one of the‍ most influential songwriters of his generation. His 1971 debut ⁢album remains a critical favorite,and‌ over nearly five decades he released 19 studio albums containing approximately 170 original songs,ranging from poignant ballads to sharp social commentary.

The concert promises an ⁤evening ​of​ extraordinary music while supporting the ⁣vital work of Plumas Arts⁤ and KQNY in fostering a thriving arts ⁢community ​within the region.
