Local Musicians to Honor john Prine in Benefit Concert for plumas Arts & KQNY
QUINCY, CA – november 8, 2024 – Plumas County’s vibrant music scene will take centre stage this weekend as 21 local musicians prepare to perform the songs of the late, legendary John Prine in a benefit concert for Plumas Arts and Plumas Community Radio (KQNY). The performances will be held Friday and Saturday, November 14th and 15th, at Quincy’s Town Hall theatre.
The event, emceed by Will Lombardi, will feature electric and acoustic interpretations of over 30 songs spanning Prine’s acclaimed career. Organizer Tommy Miles notes this is the latest in a series of fundraising concerts, though it’s been 13 years since the last one. “It’s been a while, like 13 years, since we’ve done one of these things!” he said. Previous benefit concerts have celebrated the music of artists like Neil Young, Crosby Stills & Nash, Bob dylan, and a “Soul Jukebox” tribute to artists including Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles – all performed by Plumas County talent.
“It’s a great chance for folks to come out and see thier local musicians and hear some great music, all while helping out two nonprofits that promote music in our area,” Miles explained. “Not only that, the musicians get to make new connections with like-minded performers.”
John Prine, who passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID after twice surviving cancer, is widely considered one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. His 1971 debut album remains a critical favorite, and over nearly five decades he released 19 studio albums containing approximately 170 original songs, ranging from poignant ballads to sharp social commentary.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at plumasarts.org, by phone at (530) 283-3402, or in person at the Plumas Arts Gallery located at 525 Main Street in Quincy. The concert promises an evening of extraordinary music while supporting the vital work of Plumas Arts and KQNY in fostering a thriving arts community within the region.
