Cancelled Batman Project: Secrets of a Lost Catwoman Movie
Warner bros. Shelved a Young Catwoman Film as Part of Major Content Cull
A standalone batman-universe film centered on Catwoman was secretly canceled by Warner Bros. in 2022, adding to a wave of over 40 projects scrapped by the studio. The project, revealed by DC Film News, would have explored the early years of Selina Kyle, mirroring the character’s origin story as depicted in the Gotham television series.
The cancellation underscores a period of significant upheaval at Warner Bros. Revelation, marked by financial instability and a strategic shift away from expansive, interconnected cinematic universes like the DC Extended universe initially spearheaded by Zack Snyder. The studio’s decision to drastically reduce content production impacted numerous projects, including the fully-completed Batgirl film which was also shelved.
According to a now-deleted interview originally published by Comic Book, warner Bros.’s decision to halt the Catwoman film-and more than 42 others-stemmed from a desire to curtail overall content output. The move signals a broader restructuring within the company as it seeks to streamline its DC film strategy under the leadership of DC Studios, currently developing Dynamic Duo.
