guests will enjoy a live performance by Roco Córdova alongside a curated selection of films from Canyon CinemaS collection, including works by Les Blank, Naomi Uman, Emily Chao, Thom Andersen, dorothy Wiley, Peter Kubelka, and Amy Halpern. Thes cinematic experiences will be thoughtfully paired with artist-designed small bites and drinks created in limited editions by connie Zheng, Palm assembly (Ebti & Sylvia Hughes-Gonzales), Whitney Vangrin, and Shirin Makaremi.
The event’s pairings are designed to explore the connections between the kitchen and the screen, inviting attendees to consider “the intimate gestures of care and transformation” that unite both. from the imagery of garlic to the memory of homemade chive pockets, the experience promises a sensory exploration of storytelling and community.
This gathering expands upon the themes of Southern Exposure’s concurrent exhibition, Love Letters to Aliens, offering an “unfolding menu of artist-designed small bites, drinks, and filmic encounters-from sweet-and-salty memories of migration to the luscious disintegration of a strawberry sundae.”
Tickets are $150,with an early bird discount of $100 available until November 22nd.
Participation directly supports three Bay Area artist-driven organizations dedicated to experimental film, food, and cultural dialog.
The event’s visual identity features a still from Thom Andersen’s 1965 film, Melting.
