A Unique holiday⁣ Gathering: Film,Food & Art at 500 Capp Street,December 6

On December 6th,500 Capp Street ⁣will⁢ host a special holiday gathering celebrating experimental cinema,culinary creativity,and performance,presented in partnership with Canyon Cinema,and Southern Exposure.

guests will enjoy a live performance‍ by Roco Córdova alongside a curated selection of films ‌from Canyon CinemaS collection, including works by Les ​Blank, Naomi Uman, Emily Chao, Thom⁤ Andersen, dorothy Wiley, Peter Kubelka, and Amy Halpern. Thes cinematic experiences will be thoughtfully paired ⁢with artist-designed small bites and drinks created in limited editions by connie Zheng, Palm assembly (Ebti & Sylvia Hughes-Gonzales), Whitney Vangrin, and Shirin Makaremi.

The event’s pairings are designed⁣ to explore‍ the connections between​ the kitchen and the screen, inviting ​attendees to consider “the intimate gestures ‌of care ‍and transformation” that unite both. from the imagery of garlic to the memory of homemade chive pockets, the experience promises a sensory exploration⁤ of storytelling and community.

This gathering ‍expands upon the themes of Southern Exposure’s concurrent exhibition, Love Letters to Aliens, offering an “unfolding menu of artist-designed small bites, drinks, and filmic encounters-from sweet-and-salty memories of migration to the luscious disintegration of a strawberry sundae.”

Tickets‍ are $150,with an early bird discount of $100 available until November 22nd.

Participation directly supports three Bay Area artist-driven organizations dedicated to experimental film, food, and cultural dialog.

The ‌event’s visual identity features a still from Thom Andersen’s 1965 film, Melting.

Southern Exposure (SoEx) is ⁣an artist-centered nonprofit institution dedicated to supporting visual artists through innovative programming,resource provision,and community engagement in the Mission District and beyond.

500‍ Capp Street is a historic home transformed into a dynamic work of art,originally the studio of conceptual artist David Ireland. It serves as‍ a catalyst for artistic dialogue, bringing together artists, researchers, and the public.

Canyon Cinema Foundation is dedicated to the⁢ preservation and public education surrounding self-reliant, non-commercial, experimental, and artist-made moving images, providing access to its collection and fostering appreciation for artist-made cinema.
