Olga Tañón Honored with Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, continues to Champion New Musical Voices
LAS VEGAS – Salsa icon Olga Tañón received a Lifetime Achievement Award during private Latin Grammy Week celebrations in Las Vegas on November 9, ahead of the 26th annual Latin Music Awards on November 13. The recognition celebrates Tañón’s enduring career and her commitment to musical evolution.
Tañón attributes her longevity to a lack of selfishness and a dedication to fostering new talent. “Having that selfishness that sometimes there are people who have… that does not exist in me and I think that is what has also made me move forward,” she explained. She also highlighted efforts to introduce new generations to her music thru updated sounds, stating, “We have introduced new alternatives for the new generation so that they continue remembering, but with new sounds.”
The artist emphasized her openness to ongoing collaborations, saying, “As long as life continues to give us things, you know, and collaborations, I will continue doing them.” A recent collaboration with songwriter Genio, who has penned lyrics for prominent artists, proved especially rewarding. “When he gave me the demo of the song, I told him: ‘Genio, I wont you to stay,'” Tañón recalled.
She concluded by stressing the importance of providing opportunities to talented individuals regardless of fame: “That’s the important part, you understand? That you have to learn, even if your not a mega-famous person, to continue giving the opportunity to good people, no matter if you are famous or not.”
