WVU Drug and Alcohol Testing Rule Under Review, Public Comment Invited
Morgantown, WV – November 10, 2023 – West Virginia University is seeking public input on proposed updates too its drug and alcohol testing policy for specific positions. The WVU Board of Governors (BOG) has initiated a rulemaking process to amend BOG Talent and Culture Rule 3.4, which governs drug and alcohol testing for positions covered by the Federal Transit Governance (FTA) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
The proposed changes aim to align the rule with current University practices and provide clearer definitions of which positions are subject to testing.Key revisions include granting the University President,or their designee, the authority to establish drug testing policies for roles not currently covered by Rule 3.4. The amendments also offer a more precise outline of University positions falling outside the rule’s scope, and update contact information for the office administering tests.
The updated rule and supporting documents are available for review and public comment until 11:59 p.m. on December 11. All comments received – or a summary of them - will be published on the University’s policy website for ten days before the BOG makes a final decision. The BOG reserves the right to modify the rule based on the feedback received.
