Savannah Flavors Land in Paris: L’Arrêt by The Grey Opens to Acclaim
Paris, france - A taste of the American South has arrived in the heart of Paris with the opening of L’Arrêt by The Grey, a new bistro drawing immediate attention in the city’s 7th arrondissement. Located between the Musée d’Orsay and Boulevard Saint-Germain, the restaurant officially launched this evening, offering a unique culinary experience rooted in Southern tradition with a Parisian twist.
The bistro’s olive green façade provides a striking contrast to the surrounding Haussmannian architecture, while the interior boasts warm brown leather booths and globe lamps, creating an inviting atmosphere. Chef Mashama Bailey, recognizable in a T-shirt displaying the restaurant’s logo, a grey vest, and a blue headscarf, personally greeted early diners, many of whom were eager to sample the menu’s signature dish.
Among the first patrons were an American couple originally from Georgia, to whom Bailey playfully remarked, “You’re home, then.” They were enjoying the Country Captain chicken, a celebrated dish of the American South. The meal featured a succulent chicken supreme served atop a thick slice of rustic bread, saturated with the chicken’s juices and finished with a delicately spiced tomato-based sauce hinting at curry and almond. Accompanying the chicken was Middlins broken rice, a reimagining of Savannah Red Rice (a variety of Jollof rice), enriched with diced Morteau smoked sausage, shrimp, and tarragon.
L’Arrêt by The Grey represents a notable expansion for The Grey, the acclaimed Savannah, Georgia restaurant helmed by Bailey and Johno Morisano. The Paris location promises to bring a new dimension to the city’s diverse culinary landscape.
