CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Guardians face a critical offseason challenge: bolstering an offense that, despite winning the AL Central, ranked among the franchise’s worst, while maintaining their traditionally cautious approach to free agency. The team overcame a 15 1/2 game deficit this past season, highlighting both their resilience and the need for offensive improvement.
The Guardians have historically approached free agency conservatively, likened to a careful maneuver by a truck driver delivering fragile cargo. this strategy isn’t expected to change this winter, but the team recognizes the fortunate circumstances that led to their division title and the necessity of addressing offensive deficiencies.
For the last two years, the Guardians have begun their offseason by signing free agent catcher Austin Hedges to a one-year,$4 million contract.
