Queen Camilla Resumes Senior Remembrance Sunday Role as King Charles Shows Emotion
LONDON – Queen Camilla today joined King Charles and other senior members of the royal Family at the National Service of Remembrance in Whitehall,marking her return to a prominent role on the Foreign,Commonwealth & Growth Office balcony after missing last year’s event due to a chest infection.
Camilla’s presence signifies a return to the customary order of precedence, as last year the princess of Wales was the highest-ranking royal on the balconies in the Queen’s absence. This year, Her Majesty resumed leading members of the Royal Family from the central balcony overlooking Whitehall.
Thousands gathered to witness the Remembrance Service, which included a march past the memorial by approximately 10,000 veterans. The beginning and end of the two-minute silence were marked by volleys fired by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from Horse Guards Parade.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester also observed the service from a balcony. King Charles was visibly moved during the silence, appearing tearful as the nation remembered those who served. Duchess Sophie was seen wiping away a tear as her husband, Prince Edward, laid a wreath at the memorial.
