SAN FRANCISCO – Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry will sit out Friday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets due to a worsening illness, the team announced. The absence marks Curry’s second consecutive missed game as he battles symptoms that began following a recent road trip.
Curry initially experienced the illness leading into tuesday night’s contest against the Phoenix Suns, where he scored 28 points in 34 minutes despite feeling unwell. He publicly acknowledged feeling fatigued during the second half of that game, coughing and sniffling during his postgame press conference. The Warriors immediately ruled him out of Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, wich they lost.
According to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, Curry reported his symptoms were continuing to worsen in text exchanges. Curry will remain home to rest and is not expected to travel with the team to Denver. He is currently slated to return for Sunday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers in San Francisco.
The Nuggets game also serves as the Warriors’ NBA In-Season Tournament opener. In addition to Curry’s absence, Draymond Green is listed as probable with a rib contusion and Jimmy Butler is questionable with a lower back strain. Both Green and Butler missed the Kings game but are hopeful to play against Denver,Kerr stated.
