No. 10 SMU Set to Host Virginia, Virginia Tech

DALLAS ⁤no. 10 SMU volleyball is set to open its ‍ACC schedule this weekend,hosting Virginia and ​Virginia Tech at Moody ‍Coliseum. The Mustangs will face Virginia on Friday at 7:00 p.m.CT and Virginia Tech on sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT.

SMU enters the weekend following a successful 2023 season, finishing fourth in the ACC with a 16-4 conference record and earning back-to-back⁣ NCAA tournament second-round appearances ​under Head Coach Sam Erger.‍ The program⁤ is aiming for a fourth ‌consecutive 20-win season, a feat achieved only once before ⁢in its history. This ⁣season, the Mustangs were chosen fourth in the 2024 ACC preseason Poll by the league’s head coaches.

Two SMU players,Favor anyanwu⁢ and ⁣Emma‍ Voss,were recognized prior to the season,earning All-ACC Preseason Team honors. Pitt led the way with four selections, while SMU,​ Stanford, and Louisville each had three players named to the team.

The Mustangs also have a growing presence in the professional volleyball landscape. Three members of the SMU volleyball‌ family – Director of Operations ⁤Brittany Clark, Assistant Coach Clayton Bristow, and former⁣ All-American Setter Celia Cullen – are now⁢ affiliated⁢ with the Dallas Pulse, the city’s new MLV team.

In her fourth year as head coach, ⁣Sam ⁤Erger boasts a 90-30 (.750) overall record at SMU and a 58-13 (81.7%) record in conference play. She has secured 12⁢ ranked wins, including four against top-10 opponents.
