crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr continued his impressive form with a standout performance in his side’s recent Europa Conference League victory, adding to a growing goal tally that already nears his total from last season. Sarr has scored four goals in his last three appearances and is rapidly approaching his previous season’s mark of 12 goals across all competitions.
Signed from Marseille for approximately £12.5m in 2024 as a replacement for Bayern Munich-bound michael Olise, the acquisition of Sarr is now considered a particularly astute piece of business by Palace, especially following the departure of Eberechi Eze this year. Manager Oliver Glasner lauded Sarr as “an crucial player” for the club, highlighting his impact on the pitch.
“It looks like he is dealing really well with this – we know when he has pace, he is really good,” Glasner stated. “He has such great runs, such great finishes. I remember, more or less, the same finish he had against Brighton [last season]. He had the same finish against Arsenal in the FA Cup [last season]. He is the one with the pace, and more runs in behind, the most sprinting difference. It helps he creates space for the others. He has done really well.”
Palace are among the favorites to win the Europa Conference League, a competition English teams have won twice in the last three years. The recent victory was particularly welcome following a surprising home defeat against AEK Larnaca.
“I hope it won’t be the last,” Glasner said of the win, adding, ”The first time you always remember, there was a great atmosphere. I think everyone enjoyed it and goes home pleased with the result and the performance.”
