RHOC’s ⁢Emily simpson Reveals Son Luke‘s PANDAS Diagnosis, Details His Sudden Behavioral Changes

“Real Housewives of orange County” star Emily Simpson is opening up about her 11-year-old son Luke’s recent diagnosis of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS).Simpson shared details of Luke’s rapid and⁤ unsettling behavioral shifts, stemming ⁤from a strep infection, ⁣in a recent interview.

PANDAS is a condition where a strep infection triggers a misdirected immune response ‌in the brain, leading to sudden onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, and behavioral changes. Simpson explained that Luke, previously a happy and well-adjusted child, began exhibiting alarming symptoms after contracting strep throat. “It was like a switch ‌flipped,” she said. “He ‌went from being a very sweet, loving, kind ⁣boy to being very angry, defiant, and‌ having⁣ these intrusive thoughts and compulsions.”

Simpson detailed how Luke’s symptoms manifested, ⁢including intense fears, repetitive behaviors, and emotional outbursts. “He started having really bad anxiety, and he was constantly worried about things that he ⁤never worried about before,” Simpson explained.”He would have to do things over and over again, like touching things a certain number of times, or he would get really upset.”‍

after ⁢seeking medical advice, Luke was ‍diagnosed with PANDAS. Simpson emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, which can include antibiotics to treat⁤ the strep infection⁣ and therapies to manage the neuropsychiatric symptoms. “Its a really scary thing to watch your ⁣child go through,” Simpson shared. “But ⁤we’re so grateful that we were able to get a diagnosis and ⁣start treatment.”

Simpson hopes that by sharing Luke’s story, she can ⁢raise‍ awareness about PANDAS and help other families‍ who may be facing similar challenges. She noted that PANDAS is often ‍misdiagnosed or ⁢dismissed, leaving families feeling lost and‌ unsupported. “I want people to know that ⁢this is a real thing, and that there is help available,” Simpson stated. “If your child is experiencing sudden behavioral changes after a strep infection, ‍please talk⁢ to your doctor.”
