King charles III Formally Revokes Prince Andrew‘s Royal Title
London – King Charles III has officially stripped his brother, Andrew Mountbatten windsor, of his title as Prince, a move formalized through a public notice published today in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record. The change, enacted via Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated November 3, 2025, removes Andrew’s entitlement to the style, title, and attribute of “royal Highness” and the titular dignity of “Prince.”
The decision follows weeks of intense public scrutiny surrounding Andrew’s connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Buckingham Palace announced the removal of the titles last Thursday, with Andrew understood to have not objected. He previously relinquished his other royal titles, including the Duke of York, in October, amid ongoing controversy.
The Gazette entry details the removal of the dukedom through a royal warrant, and the princely status via the Letters Patent. The Great Seal of the realm, a wax seal signifying the monarch’s approval, was used to validate the legal instrument.
Recent revelations have further fueled the controversy. Emails disclosed earlier this year indicated Andrew maintained contact with Epstein for a longer period than previously acknowledged. Additionally, Virginia Giuffre, a prominent accuser of Epstein, reiterated in a recently published posthumous memoir allegations of sexual encounters with Andrew when she was a teenager – claims Andrew has consistently and strenuously denied.
As part of the changes, Andrew will also vacate his residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor, Buckingham Palace confirmed last week. He will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
