cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to Undergo Injured Reserve Stint

TEMPE, AZ ⁢- arizona cardinals ⁢quarterback kyler Murray will be placed on injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday, sidelining ‍him ⁢for at least the next four games as he⁤ continues to recover from a foot injury. The move comes ⁤as the Cardinals prepare to face the Seattle⁤ Seahawks in Week ‍10, with⁣ Jacoby Brissett already designated as the starting quarterback.

This decision impacts the Cardinals’ immediate playoff hopes and raises longer-term questions about MurrayS future with the association. The 28-year-old has‌ struggled with injuries‍ throughout his career, and his availability has been a key factor in the team’s performance. Placing ⁤him on IR allows Murray to focus ‌solely ⁢on recovery without the pressure of a ‍weekly return timeline.

“He’s not healthy enough to play,” Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon stated. “He needs to get healthy so he can get back to playing football. So, that’s what we’re doing.” Gannon explained the decision⁣ was made collaboratively between himself,Murray, and other team personnel.

Murray has started ⁤five games this season, completing 68.3 ⁢percent of his passes for 962 yards with six ‌touchdowns and three interceptions. Last year, he finished with 3,851 passing yards, 21 touchdowns,‍ and 11‍ interceptions. ‌

While a return later in the season remains a possibility, Gannon emphasized⁢ the priority is Murray’s health. “I think that you hear me say ⁤all the time, injuries⁣ are different for everybody…Obviously, for him, it prevents him from being fully healthy to go⁢ play,” Gannon said.

The Cardinals and Murray have a complex relationship, with reports suggesting a potential parting of ways after the 2026 offseason. For now, the focus is on Murray’s rehabilitation and Brissett’s performance as the team navigates a challenging season.
