Radio Hosts Complete Grueling 25-Mile Three-Legged Walk for Charity
Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium witnessed the triumphant, if weary, finish of a remarkable challenge Tuesday as BBC Radio Stoke breakfast show presenters Lee Blakeman and Ajmal Hussain completed a 25-mile three-legged walk. The pair, tethered at the ankles, finished the trek in under 10 hours after setting off from the radio station at approximately 08:00 GMT.
the ambitious feat was undertaken to raise funds and awareness for local charities, demonstrating the power of community spirit and the dedication of Radio Stoke’s on-air personalities. While the final fundraising total is still being tallied, the presenters’ journey captivated listeners and drew support from across Staffordshire, highlighting the importance of local radio and charitable giving.
The challenge proved physically demanding, with blakeman admitting to feeling “a little bit emotional” upon seeing their names displayed on the stadium’s giant scoreboards. “We were just in awe,” Hussain added, describing the experience as “amazing.”
throughout the day, the duo received encouragement from the public, including car horns and walkers who joined them along the route. Boxer Nathan Heaney, supporters from the Alice Charity, and local primary school children were among those who came out to cheer them on.
Despite moments of fatigue, Hussain noted the support helped them persevere. “There were times when we had felt a little bit down during the day, but…the support…had helped spur them on,” he said.
Blakeman expressed gratitude to everyone who showed their support, stating, “To everybody who’s tooted, to everybody who’s waved, to everybody who’s donated – thank you, thank you, thank you.” He concluded, “We’re aching and we’re shattered, but it has been such a great experience.”
