Brasília, DF – November 2, 2025 – Teh Federal District (DF) has already registered over 110,000 dialysis procedures this year, underscoring the growing prevalence of chronic kidney disease and the critical importance of preventative care. Recent workshops focused on bolstering primary care’s role in early detection and mitigation are aiming to reverse this trend.
6th Workshop on Chronic Diseases Focuses on Primary Care
On October 31st, the Secretaria de Saúde do Distrito Federal (SES-DF) and the Brazilian Society of Nephrology (SBN) co-hosted the 6th Workshop on Chronic Diseases in Primary Care. The event,held at the auditorium of the Health Sciences Teaching and Research Foundation (Fepecs),drew over 100 health professionals dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
Experts Emphasize Preventative measures
“We no that the sooner we identify risk factors and act on prevention, the greater the chances of preventing the progression of the disease and reducing the need for renal replacement therapies, such as hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis,”

iara Carvalho, the SES-DF District Technical Reference in Nephrology, emphasized the existing framework for kidney care within the Federal District. “This event sought to discuss the main ways to mitigate the progression of chronic kidney disease and work on the basic problems that lead the patient, for example, to dialysis,” she detailed.
Primary Care Nurses See Direct Impact
Nurse Graziele Macedo, stationed at Basic Health Unit 9 in Ceilândia, regularly serves patients of all ages. She found the workshop notably insightful. “For me, the part about care from pediatrics stood out. All this management within primary Health Care can prevent the patient from needing hemodialysis,” Macedo assessed.
