Cardinals Name Jacoby Brissett Starting Quarterback, Bench Kyler Murray
The Arizona Cardinals have announced a change at quarterback, naming jacoby Brissett the starter moving forward, head coach Jonathan Gannon revealed today. Kyler Murray will be relegated to the bench, initially due to a foot injury with a recovery timetable of 4-8 weeks, though Gannon indicated a healthy murray would not instantly regain the starting role.
The decision comes as Murray has struggled this season, while Brissett led the Cardinals to a recent victory against the Dallas Cowboys, scoring 27 points in that game. While initial reports suggested the move was performance-based, the team later cited Murray’s ongoing recovery as a factor. However, Gannon clarified that even when fully healthy, Brissett will remain the Cardinals’ starting quarterback.
Brissett will make his frist start against the Seattle seahawks this Sunday at 1:05 PM MST at Lumen Field. He has faced Seattle once previously, in 2017 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, a 46-18 loss. The Seahawks also defeated Brissett and the New England Patriots 23-20 in overtime last year during a game played in Foxboro.
The Cardinals, who entered the season with high expectations, are hoping the quarterback change will provide a spark to turn around thier struggling season.
