Beloved London Drugs in Vancouver‘s renfrew-Collingwood to Close After Four Decades
A busy London Drugs location in Vancouver’s Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood is set to close its doors, leaving local residents devastated after 40 years of service. The store, a fixture in the community, will be ceasing operations, adding to a recent wave of retail closures across Metro Vancouver.
The impending closure has sparked an outpouring of concern from long-time customers who praise the store’s dedicated staff and convenient location. The loss is especially felt as it follows the shuttering of other neighbourhood staples, including Red Apple Market and Meinhardt Fine Foods, raising questions about the future of local retail.
“Been going to this location since 2007,” one local resident shared. “It is indeed so much better than the other LDs to me.Really going to miss it. I hope the staff will all be relocated. I know all the pharmacy people’s names.”
The closure contributes to a growing trend of grocery and retail businesses shutting down in Metro Vancouver. Red Apple Market recently announced it would be closing, while Meinhardt Fine foods shuttered its Pacific center location earlier this year and Columbus Farm market permanently closed its Edgemont village store this summer.
the future of the Renfrew-Collingwood location remains uncertain, prompting discussion among residents about what new retailer they would like to see fill the space. London Drugs has not yet commented on the fate of its employees or the reasons behind the closure.
