Prince and Princess of Wales Host Thank You Party After Swift Adelaide Cottage Exit
WINDSOR, ENGLAND – The Prince and Princess of Wales have hosted a celebratory gathering for the builders and staff involved in their recent move from Adelaide Cottage, a property William reportedly felt was ”cursed” following a series of deeply challenging personal events. The move, completed earlier this year, was initially planned for several years in the future but was expedited due to unhappy memories associated with their time at the eight-bedroom Georgian mansion.
William and Kate, both 43,relocated their children to Adelaide Cottage in August 2022 seeking a more protected, rural upbringing and proximity to the late Queen. However, her death just weeks after their arrival marked the beginning of a period of important family hardship. This was followed by the release of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix series in December 2022 and Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, in January 2023.
Last year brought further personal challenges with both kate and King Charles receiving cancer diagnoses. Kate underwent preventative chemotherapy, an experience William described as “brutal.” While now in remission, sources say the ordeal was “mentally scarring” for the family and reinforced their desire to prioritize their well-being.
An insider revealed, “every part of Adelaide Cottage, sadly, had an unpleasant memory associated with it. It’s a lovely house and they started with such high hopes, but in the end they have experienced some of their most challenging times there as a family… Little wonder that William feels like it was cursed.”
The Waleses have moved to Forest Lodge, funded and refurbished at their own expense, and are paying market rent to the crown estate. They intend to remain at Forest Lodge even after William accedes to the throne, a departure from recent tradition. For a period, they will be neighbors to Prince Andrew, who is expected to leave nearby Royal Lodge, approximately 1.4 miles away.
A 150-acre security cordon, agreed upon with the Home Office, has been established around the property.
Meanwhile, Prince william is preparing to travel to Rio de Janeiro on Monday for three days of public engagements, culminating in the earthshot Prize awards on Wednesday night. The ten-year initiative awards five £1million prizes annually to scale-up innovative solutions to environmental challenges. He will later travel to Belem, Brazil, to represent his father at the COP30 climate change summit.
