Celtics‘ Scheierman Seeks to Solidify Role Amidst Rotation Opportunities
HOUSTON, TX – Boston Celtics wing Keyontae Scheierman is working to establish himself as an NBA-level player during a pivotal second professional season, despite limited minutes in Wednesday’s game against the houston Rockets. With Jayson Tatum sidelined for the year and significant offseason roster changes, opportunities for rotation minutes have opened up for the 30th overall pick from the 2024 draft.
Scheierman has seen occasional playing time, showcasing positive attributes, but hasn’t yet made a significant impact compared to other players vying for a role. Josh Minott has emerged as a starter in the past four games, while rookie Hugo Gonzalez has impressed with his defensive play.
“You try to just make an impact wherever you can,” Scheierman said. “It is indeed tough to get in a flow when you’re only in there for 2.5, three minutes. But you’re trying to just make winning plays, whether that’s boxing out, making a cut that frees up someone else, it’s the little things. It’s not necessarily everything that shows up in a stat sheet.”
While Scheierman contributed scoring against the Rockets, the Celtics are looking for him to develop a more well-rounded game, recognizing that consistent shooting is not always guaranteed. The long season provides ample opportunity for Scheierman to prove his value when called upon.
