Idol 2023 Sees Two Eliminations, Finalists Prepare for Next Stage
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Two contestants were eliminated during the third Saturday finale of Idol 2023, narrowing the field to four as the competition intensifies. Malva Turestedt Cederholm and Rebecca Larsson received the fewest votes from the public,marking the end of their journeys on the show. The remaining finalists – Nicolina-Mercedes Brandström, Love Backlund, and love Stenmarck Hedlund – will advance to the next round, continuing their pursuit of the Idol crown.
The eliminations bring a bittersweet end to weeks of performances and camaraderie for both Cederholm and Larsson. The departure of these two singers also impacts the close bonds formed within the competition, particularly the friendship between cederholm and Brandström, who expressed deep emotion at the prospect of continuing without each other. this latest round of eliminations underscores the high stakes and emotional toll of the competition as the finalists edge closer to the grand finale.
Love Stenmarck Hedlund reacted with surprise to the news, stating, “Wow, it’s fun,” in a post-show interview.
Cederholm acknowledged the disappointment, saying, “I feel well.No, I don’t. This sucks but it is what it is.” Her mother, Mirja Turestedt, remained immensely proud, commenting, “Malva has made friends for life.”
Brandström, visibly upset, told TV4 Nyheterna, “It is very emotional. Having to stand there with malva and then try to be happy when I move on and she goes out. I can’t imagine an Idol without her. We have been sitting together around the clock.It’s not just here on stage, it’s the whole week.” Cederholm, in turn, offered support to Brandström, saying, “Now I’m starting to cry again. It will be a lot of work. But now she will win. I’ll come here and cheer next Saturday.”
Larsson expressed gratitude,stating,”I feel so grateful. It will be very sad not to be able to hang out with you anymore.” Pär Lernström, following the program, praised Larsson for the joy she brought to the competition. Larsson herself reflected on the difficulty of saying goodbye, saying, “Saying goodbye to everyone feels so sad…these particular people, in this particular hotel – you know it will be difficult to get back together. It’s heart breaking to say goodbye.”
