Estelle Shively Thompson,longtime Ferrum Resident,Dies at 94
Ferrum,VA – November 1,2025 - Estelle Shively Thompson,a beloved resident of Ferrum,Virginia,passed away peacefully on Friday,October 31,2025,at the age of 94. Thompson’s passing marks the end of a life deeply rooted in family and community.
Born to the late Mark and Lula Shively, Thompson was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Buford thompson, as well as five sisters – Mildred Scott, Mary Sauers, Geneva Hodges, Virginia Hodges, and Opal Thompson – and three brothers: Millard, Kermit, and Garvice Shively.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary Thompson (and wife Michelle), Benny Thompson, and Ricky Thompson (and wife Dana). Thompson’s legacy also lives on through her cherished grandson, Logan, and a network of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to especially acknowledge the devoted care provided by her niece, Doris Carter.
In a statement, the family expressed their sincere gratitude to the staff at Franklin Health and Rehab Center for the compassionate care Thompson received during her stay. They also extended thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, and the dedicated hospice team who provided comfort during her final illness. Family caretakers Jill Hodges and Brenda Perdue where also specifically recognized for their loving support.
Those who knew Estelle Thompson remember her for her warm heart and affectionate smile. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A funeral service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., wiht Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Following the service, interment will take place at Maple Grove cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora funeral Service and Cremation Center.
