Sydney Sweeney Dazzles in Sheer Silver Gown at Toronto Film Festival
TORONTO – Sydney Sweeney turned heads at the Variety Toronto Film Festival Studio, appearing in a stunning, see-through silver dress while discussing her upcoming role as boxer Christy Martin. The actress’s striking look coincided with details emerging about her extensive physical transformation for the film, including a 30-pound weight gain and rigorous training regimen.
Sweeney, traditionally known for her blonde hair, recently debuted a brighter, “icy blonde” shade, as shared by colorist Tracey Cunningham. “Its more of an icy blonde,” Cunningham adds. “The color really makes her eyes and features pop and complements the cut so well.” This stylistic shift arrived as Sweeney felt “it felt like the perfect time to do something bold.”
The actress stars in Christy, a biographical drama chronicling the life of former professional boxer Christy Martin. The film explores Martin’s 1990s rise to fame, her complex relationship with her ex-husband and manager, and themes of sexuality, identity, and survival. Sweeney expressed her deep connection to the role, stating,”I absolutely loved it. I truly felt Christy’s power as I transformed.”
To authentically portray Martin, Sweeney underwent a demanding physical preparation. She collaborated with a nutritionist, weight trainer, and boxing coach, significantly increasing her calorie intake with protein shakes, supplements, and foods like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and milkshakes. “We upped my calorie intake…I was constantly burning it all off at the same time. So keeping it all up was quite a challenge,” Sweeney explained.
Beyond the physical demands, Sweeney emphasized the importance of sharing Martin’s story, particularly her harrowing experience with domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband, Jim Martin. “I’m just glad that Christy’s story is out there,” she said.
Christy is scheduled for release in theaters on November 7. The film also stars Merritt Wever,Katy O’Brian,Ethan embry, jess Gabor,Chad Coleman,Bryan Hibbard,Tony Cavalero, and Gilbert Cruz.
