Greenwich Teen⁣ Fencer Strikes Gold⁣ Five Times at South American Championships

GREENWICH, CT – Greenwich resident​ Marcus Pinto has‍ returned from the Fencing South American⁤ Championships with a stunning five gold medals, solidifying his place as a⁢ rising star in the sport. Pinto, who competes ‍with the ⁣sabre, achieved‌ the victories representing ‍Brazil,⁣ a nation his family⁢ strategically chose to support through his athletic pursuits.

Pinto began competing in Brazil in⁤ November 2021 ‌and now participates in approximately six tournaments ⁣there annually, a schedule encouraged by Morehouse College fencing ⁣coach, Morehouse.​ While enjoying the welcoming atmosphere of the⁤ Brazilian people and its ‌gorgeous beaches, Pinto has also found a unique⁢ competitive landscape.

“Everyone looks out for each other a lot more” in the Brazilian fencing scene, Pinto noted, contrasting it with the⁣ more individualistic approach common ‍among American fencers. This sense of community, coupled with the faster pace of bouts in Brazil – a difference he adapted ⁤to – contributed to ‌his success at the championships.

Pinto’s mother, Bibiana⁤ Pinto,‍ explained the family’s decision to focus on competing in Brazil. “We‌ decided as a family to use fencing to give back to the Brazil‌ community,” she said. Each South American contry ⁤can send up to six fencers to the championships.

Beyond the medals, Pinto emphasized the importance of enjoying ​the process. “The biggest‍ thing​ to find success in the sport is to just have fun and go with the flow,” he​ said. “Trying to force results…simply doesn’t ⁤work.”

For Pinto,fencing isn’t just a competition; “This is my entire life,this sport,”⁣ he affirmed. His ⁤recent achievements underscore a dedication that continues to propel him forward in the world of fencing.
