Golden Valley Home Designed by Architect Sarah Susanka Asks $1.2 Million
A contemporary home in Golden Valley, designed by renowned architect Sarah Susanka, has come onto the market for $1.2 million. Located in the Tyrol Hills neighborhood, the 4,060-square-foot residence offers open sightlines and is strategically positioned to capture views of Theodore Wirth Park.
Susanka, known for creating comfortable and functional spaces, designed the home to feel sheltering while maintaining an open flow. “It creates a sense of shelter around the kitchen without it being separated by walls,” she explained. The home’s layout has proven adaptable to the Grants’ evolving needs over the years. The lower level features a separate entrance, bedroom, bath, and family room-initially used for a live-in nanny, then as a teen hangout, and ultimately converted into an office by Peter Grant.
The second floor includes four bedrooms and two baths. The primary suite boasts a curved window wall and views of the surrounding woods. The bathroom features a Japanese-inspired design with a cedar-paneled soaking tub, reflecting the couple’s travels in asia.
Throughout the home, Susanka incorporated signature elements like a large built-in window seat under an arched window in the family room, wich served as a play area for the Grants’ children and later a gathering spot for guests. “this house has all kinds of places to tuck in and play, read a book or have a conversation. That was all Sarah,” said Anett Grant. “She knew how to make a house feel comfortable.”
A three-story turret, requested by Anett Grant who has a fondness for circular designs, adds a unique architectural feature, with Susanka skillfully integrating it to create inviting seating areas and views.
