Blue Jays Surge to World Series Lead, Defeat Dodgers 6-3
LOS ANGELES – The Toronto Blue Jays seized a 3-2 lead in the World Series Wednesday, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 in a game marked by early power hitting and resilient pitching. The victory puts Toronto one win away from their first championship as 1993.
This outcome dramatically shifts the momentum in the best-of-seven series. After dropping Games 1 and 2 in Los Angeles, the Blue Jays have won three straight, returning to Toronto with a chance to clinch the title at home. The Dodgers, seeking their first championship since 2020, now face elimination and must win two consecutive games on the road to stay alive.
Davis Schneider, unexpectedly batting leadoff due to an injury to George Springer, launched a first-pitch home run in the top of the first inning.Vladimir guerrero Jr. followed with a two-run shot later in the inning, giving Toronto an early 3-0 advantage against Dodgers’ starting pitcher Blake Snell. Guerrero’s home run was his eighth of the postseason.
“I think we just want to be the toughest outs we can possibly be,” said Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette. “We’re a team, man, and we’ll do anything we can to win.”
Snell, despite the early damage, settled in to strike out seven batters over four innings.Though, the Blue Jays extended their lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Ernie Clement, scoring Daulton Varsho who reached base on a leadoff triple. Further runs were added in the seventh on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Bichette, and in the eighth with a run-scoring single from Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
The Dodgers managed only three runs, failing to capitalize on opportunities.
Game 6 is scheduled for Friday in Toronto, with Dodgers right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto facing off against Blue Jays right-hander kevin Gausman. Yamamoto pitched a four-hitter in Game 2, while Gausman allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Yamamoto’s recent performance marked the first World Series complete game as 2015 and the first consecutive postseason complete games since 2001.
