LAHAINA, Hawai’i - The University of Colorado men’s golf team concluded its fall season with a fifth-place finish at the Ka’anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER, showcasing a dominant performance marked by record-breaking statistics. Despite finishing fifth, the buffaloes demonstrated remarkable play throughout the tournament and the entire fall campaign.
Colorado recorded 6 eagles during the Classic, bringing their season total to 17 - exceeding the halfway point toward challenging last year’s team record of 30. The team also navigated the course effectively, with onyl 6 double-bogeys or worse (Georgia and FGCU also had two).
the Buffaloes completed 14 of 15 rounds this fall with subpar scores, building on last year’s school best of 29. In Roy Williams’ 20th season as head coach, Colorado has now accumulated 252 subpar rounds, a meaningful increase from the 84 recorded before his arrival.
Throughout the fall,CU’s golfers combined for an impressive 166-under par total. Of 105 rounds played, 80 were at par or better (66 subpar, 14 even), including 44 rounds in the 60s, resulting in a team stroke average of 70.39 – a new school record,surpassing last year’s 70.53.
Individually, Parker Paxton led the team with a stroke average of 68.80, tied for the second-best fall average in school history. Hunter Swanson (69.73) and Brandon Knight (69.93) also achieved sub-70 averages, marking the first time three players have done so in the same fall. seven players overall recorded sub-72 averages, exceeding the previous high of six, with five posting sub-71 numbers.
Freshman Tyler Long impressed with a stroke average of 70.60, the second-best fall average by a freshman, trailing only Justin Biwer’s record of 70.07 set in 2021-22. Dylan McDermott previously held the second-best mark at 71.33. Long recorded par-or-better scores in 11 of 15 rounds.
Colorado’s scoring averages for the fifth and fourth players were 73.2 and 71.3, respectively. the team finished with a 14-4 record against Division I competition at the Ka’anapali Classic, concluding the fall with an overall record of 68-10-2 (.863) across five events. In single rounds, they posted a 33-14-7 record, ending the fall season at 181-43-11 (.94).
