Hampden-Sydney Defeats Randolph-Macon in Regular Season Finale, 3-1
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets men’s soccer team concluded its regular season with a 3-1 loss to Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday. Despite an early goal from Grayson Woods, the yellow Jackets were unable to overcome a penalty kick and two second-half goals from the Tigers. The loss concludes the regular season for Randolph-Macon, who now await their opponent and details for the upcoming ODAC quarterfinal match.
the Yellow Jackets struck first in the 17th minute when Woods capitalized on a corner kick from Wiley Eubank. Woods’ initial shot was saved by HSC goalkeeper Stig Larson, but he recovered the rebound and scored, giving Randolph-Macon a 1-0 lead. However, the Tigers responded in the 26th minute with a penalty kick converted by Charlie Letson, tying the game at 1-1. Before halftime, Hampden-Sydney took the lead in the 42nd minute with a goal from Jackson Robbins, making it 2-1.
Hampden-Sydney extended their advantage in the 64th minute when Victor Ovalle-Mares assisted Owen Edwards, who scored off a corner kick to make it 3-1. Despite attempts to rally, the Yellow Jackets were unable to break through the Tigers’ defense.
Hampden-Sydney outshot Randolph-Macon 20-6, with 11 shots on frame compared to the Yellow Jackets’ five. HSC also held a slight edge in corner kicks, 6-5. Woods scored the lone goal for Randolph-Macon, while Zach Richards and Woods each recorded two shots.
