A 71-year-old Salem woman died Wednesday in a house fire in the North Lancaster area, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Lesa Lemons was the sole occupant of the home and was found after firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire.
The fire, reported around 12:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of Northeast Oak Park Drive, drew a response from Marion County Fire District #1 and the Oregon State Fire Marshal. While the cause of the fire remains under examination, authorities stated it does not appear to be suspicious. The loss highlights the ongoing risk of residential fires and the importance of fire safety,particularly for vulnerable populations like seniors who may live alone.
Firefighters arrived to find the home “fully engulfed,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. Lemons was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released details regarding where in the home she was located.
