Paks Coach Bognár Defends Himself After Varga’s Criticism

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Paks head coach György Bognár responded to criticism from Ferencváros⁣ striker Barnabás Varga following a match earlier in October, asserting ⁣Paks has historically had ⁣the⁢ upper hand against ⁤their rivals.Varga, speaking to M4 Sport, stated, “The glass is‍ half empty, I think we⁤ deserved⁢ to win. We⁢ didn’t see a‌ lot ⁣of football on the field today either. But we got used to it in the matches against Paks.”

Bognár countered, ‍stating, “They haven’t really been ‌able⁢ to beat us in recent years either, I think we’ve been successful‍ four⁣ times out of five,⁣ and there’s also the two ⁢cup victories, right? They don’t know what to do with us, and in their desperation they adopted this style that exists within the club. ⁢This makes us smile, and we will take⁢ it ⁣that way.”

The Paks‍ coach also acknowledged Varga’s talent, adding, “Despite this,‍ I consider Barnabás Varga to be an outstanding footballer, who would hold his own in any European team in this position.”

Bognár recently received a Pro urbe award from the city of Paks, which he is scheduled to receive at a commemoration on October ⁤23rd.
