Hamburg S-Bahn Introduces S7 Line Designation Amidst Track Work
HAMBURG – The Hamburg S-Bahn is implementing a new line designation, S7, for services between Bergedorf/Aumühle and Altona, effective Sunday, December 14th. This change stems from ongoing track work and the closure of the route from Holstenstrasse to Altona since this summer, necessitated by a thorough inspection of the Holstenstrasse railway overpass by DB InfraGO.
Previously, all routes on the Bergedorf S-Bahn line were marked as S2. With the altered routing, trains traveling from bergedorf to Diebsteich via the connecting railway will continue to be designated S2.The S7 designation will apply to S-Bahn services running from Bergedorf/Aumühle to Altona through the city tunnel, and returning via the connecting line.
The number of trains and their schedules remain unchanged. The S7 is not a new line, but a new designation for an existing route. Passengers will see the new line markings displayed on train destination boards and in digital data systems. The S7 will be shown in dark yellow in the network timetable, and station signage will be updated accordingly.
The Holstenstrasse railway bridge inspection and planning for potential renovations are expected to continue untill the end of December 2025, after which DB InfraGO will release findings and renovation plans. The S2 runs from Bergedorf via the main train station to Dammtor, Sternschanze, Holstenstraße and Diebsteich. The S7 travels from the main station through the city tunnel, stopping at Jungfernstieg,Stadthausbrücke,Landungsbrücken,Reeperbahn and Königstraße.
