Boston Businesses Can Now Upgrade Liquor Licenses, City to Host Workshop
BOSTON, MA – Beer and wine license holders in Boston may soon be able to expand their offerings thanks to new state legislation, and the City is hosting a workshop to explain the process. The Boston Licensing Board and Office of Small Business will present a workshop on November 17 at 10 a.m. at bell In Hand Tavern (45 Union Street) detailing how businesses can upgrade to a non-transferable all-alcoholic beverages license.
As part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Massachusetts State Budget, the State Legislature authorized cities and towns across Massachusetts to allow these upgrades.The workshop will begin with a presentation from the Licensing Board, followed by insights from Irene Li of Prepshift, who will discuss key considerations for business owners contemplating the change.
