Biden Tells Boston Audience ‘America is Not a Fairy Tale’
BOSTON,MA - President Joe Biden, recently completing radiation treatment for prostate cancer, delivered remarks at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston, emphasizing the ongoing need for civil discourse and acknowledging the challenges facing American democracy. Speaking earlier this month, Biden quoted the late Senator Ted Kennedy, stating, “Ted Kennedy said what unites us is far more powerful than what divides us, and your support of his vision is an investment not only in this amazing institute but in democracy itself.”
The appearance comes after Biden finished a round of radiation therapy for an aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to CBS news, though treatment is not yet complete.
The Edward M. Kennedy Institute regularly hosts speakers from across the political spectrum to foster a more civil national dialog. Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the institute earlier this month on the importance of civility in government. Pence also publicly disagreed with former President Donald Trump‘s stance on pardons for those convicted in connection with the January 6th Capitol attack.
Biden won the presidency in 2020, defeating Trump, but opted not to seek reelection in 2024, endorsing Vice President kamala Harris. Harris subsequently lost to Trump, who secured a second term and returned to the White House last november.
