Dallas-Fort Worth Braces for Severe Storms, Flood Watch Issued
Dallas-Fort Worth residents are preparing for a weekend of severe weather, with the potential for damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes. A Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday as widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches – with isolated totals reaching 4 to 5 inches – is expected. The National Weather Service warns the most significant threat will arrive late Friday evening, between 9 and 10 p.m.
The approaching system poses multiple hazards to the Metroplex. High winds are the primary concern, but quarter-sized hail or smaller is also possible. Western areas of North Texas face a slight risk of tornadoes. The storms are expected to impact travel and potentially cause localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
Saturday morning is forecast to be dry, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the 70s before a third disturbance brings more showers and storms, especially south of DFW. While these later storms are not currently expected to be severe, they will bring gusty winds and hail. Sunday will start cloudy with lingering showers in eastern North Texas, eventually clearing to a pleasant fall day with temperatures in the 70s.
Looking ahead, Monday will be mild with temperatures in the 70s.Tuesday will be breezy with partly sunny skies. Cooler air will move in mid-week, with Wednesday projected to be the coolest day with sunny skies and lighter winds.
