Long Island residents can expect continued pleasant conditions through the weekend, but forecasters are monitoring a potential coastal storm system developing for late next week. While Halloween remains several days away, the possibility of rain looms over trick-or-treating plans.
The extended forecast calls for mostly sunny skies Friday with a high near 62 degrees and a low around 43. Saturday and Sunday will remain mild with highs around 60 and 57 degrees respectively, and overnight lows hovering near 44 and 42 degrees. Monday and Tuesday will see continued sun and clouds, with highs around 56 and a slight shower chance on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday bring increased cloud cover and the potential for rain showers, with highs around 58 and 57 degrees. Currently, Halloween Friday is projected to have lingering rain with a high of 59 degrees.
Beyond the local forecast, meteorologists are tracking Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean. The storm is expected to intensify into a Category 4 or 5 hurricane and bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening flooding to Hispaniola and Jamaica through the weekend. However, Melissa is currently forecast to move out to sea and is separate from the developing coastal storm perhaps impacting Long Island next week.
