Turkish air Force C-130J Fleet Modernization Underway in the UK
ISTANBUL – A fleet of 12 C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft recently acquired by Turkey from the United Kingdom are currently undergoing a thorough modernization program at Marshall Aerospace’s facilities in Cambridge, UK. The multiyear contract between Marshall Aerospace and the turkish Air Force includes scheduled maintenance, provision of spare parts and tooling, and extensive training support for Turkish personnel.
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MoD) announced preparations for the program during its weekly press briefing last week, confirming the handover of the aircraft to Marshall Aerospace for overhaul and upgrades. The MoD stated that the aircraft will be phased into Turkish service following completion of the work, wich includes critical center wing box replacements.
Following the UK-based modernization, future maintenance and sustainment of the C-130J fleet will be conducted domestically by the Turkish Air Force, enabled by the training programs included in the agreement.
Currently, the Turkish Air Force operates 19 older C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft, comprised of six B models and 13 E models. The introduction of the modernized C-130Js is expected to considerably enhance the capabilities of the aging fleet and will operate alongside the Air force’s airbus A400M Atlas aircraft, providing increased capacity for long-range and heavy-lift missions.
