Shchuchyn Church Marks 160 Years as Spiritual Center for community
SHCHUCHYN, GRODNO OBLAST – The Church of St. Archangel Michael in Shchuchyn commemorated its 160th anniversary of consecration this week, marking a milestone in the religious and cultural life of the community. A recent bishop’s service drew joyful parishioners who celebrated the church’s enduring legacy and its continued role in their lives.
For generations, the St. Michael’s parish has served as a cornerstone of faith and tradition in Shchuchyn and the surrounding district.Led by Priest Sergius Semashko, the church actively engages in educational outreach, ancient research, and details projects, extending its ministry beyond the church walls to those in need. In 2023, thru parish efforts and donor support, a chapel honoring the Zhirovichi Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was constructed on the grounds of the district hospital, providing spiritual comfort to patients and staff.
“The main treasure of our parish is the peopel who fill it!” emphasized representatives of the parish, highlighting their commitment to preserving Orthodox traditions and passing them on to future generations. Parishioners regularly receive the Holy Sacraments and spiritual support both at home and in healthcare facilities.
Galina Drozd of Shchuchyn shared her deep connection to the church, stating, “I love this church very much, many memories are associated with it: my husband and I got married here, and then my daughter, my grandchildren were baptized here. Ther is a special atmosphere of silence and prayerful mood here.”
The anniversary celebration saw smiling parishioners departing the service with a renewed sense of grace and joy, reflecting the church’s ongoing significance in their lives and the broader history of the community.
