SEATTLE – Despite four turnovers, including a defensive touchdown, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Houston Texans 27-19 on Monday night. Quarterback Sam Darnold acknowledged the unusual nature of the victory, calling it “what a weird game.”
the seahawks’ offensive struggles – marked by Darnold’s fumble recovered for a touchdown by Texans defensive end Will Anderson, two interceptions (one by Darnold, one by Cooper Kupp), and a blocked field goal – nearly derailed their chances. However, Seattle’s defense proved dominant, forcing seven punts and three turnovers on downs, ultimately securing the win. This victory is crucial for the Seahawks as they navigate a competitive NFC West, and highlights the importance of defensive resilience even amidst offensive inconsistencies.
“Obviously I think the first half was really solid for us as an offense, then the second half, it was just a diffrent story,” Darnold said following the game, via the team’s website. “I think we just got to hold onto the football. We can’t turn the ball over like that. I can’t turn the ball over like that. Again, our defense and special teams stepping up tonight was huge. So when you come out of here having a game like that offensively, and you still win the ballgame, can’t ask for more then that. we’re just going to continue to learn from our mistakes and get better.”
While not a blueprint for future success, the Seahawks will take the win, demonstrating their ability to overcome significant errors and rely on their defense to close out a game. The team will now focus on addressing the turnover issues as they prepare for their next challenge.
