Former Minor Leaguer and Mexican League Veteran Ted Ford Dies at 78
Ted Ford, a former minor league baseball player who enjoyed a triumphant career in the Mexican League, has died at the age of 78. Ford passed away in his adopted hometown of McAllen, Texas, and is survived by his wife, Angelina, and ten of his eleven children.
Ford’s baseball journey spanned multiple leagues and countries. He spent seven seasons in the minor leagues, batting .291 overall. He found meaningful success in Mexico,highlighted by a .332 average with 29 doubles, 10 home runs, and 74 RBIs for Jalisco. In 1977, playing for Durango, he posted a .312 average and a .437 on-base percentage fueled by 101 walks. His final professional season came in 1982,at age 35,with additional partial stats showing a .317 average in Mexico.
After retiring from baseball, Ford dedicated himself to the McAllen, Texas community, becoming deeply involved in the local Little League program. His family’s obituary reflects a life centered on family and a passion for the game he loved.
