Danny‍ Garcia Ends Brooklyn Run with Fourth-Round Knockout, Hints at⁣ Continued Career

BROOKLYN, NY – Danny Garcia concluded⁤ his “Farewell to Brooklyn” ⁣card ⁢at Barclays Center with⁤ a dominant fourth-round knockout of Jose ‍Gonzalez Saturday night, improving his record at the venue ⁤to 8-2. The victory came via a left hook, echoing Garcia’s 2012 win over Erik Morales at⁤ the same arena. Despite billing the fight⁣ as a farewell to Brooklyn, Garcia indicated a strong possibility of‍ continuing ⁤his boxing career.

Garcia, 37, was the first fighter to headline ⁣a boxing event at Barclays Center in ⁣2012. ‌Thirteen years later, he delivered a similar finish against gonzalez, landing the decisive left hook in the ‍same ⁢round.‍ The win serves as a rebound for Garcia following a stoppage loss to Erislandy Lara in September 2024.

The fight saw Garcia quickly establish control, hurting‌ Gonzalez in the opening minute. ‌”I noticed I hurt him, but for some reason, my timing‍ fell a little bit off,” Garcia said.”So, ⁢I’m like, ⁤’OK, let me just settle down⁤ for the next couple rounds‍ and work behind my ⁤jab, and then when ⁢he ⁤stops moving his feet, I ‌can try to catch him.'”

Gonzalez, moving‌ up in ⁢weight for the first time ‌above welterweight, ‌proved unable to withstand Garcia’s⁣ pressure. The fight‌ ended when Garcia connected with a ‍flush left hook to‌ Gonzalez’s ‌chin.

“I already knew what he was trying to do,” Garcia stated. “Everybody thinks I’m ⁤flat-footed. ‍They could just box around ‌me like it’s⁣ easy, but when you’re in there with me, it’s a whole different ⁤ballgame.”

while Garcia promoted the event under his Swift ⁤Promotions banner and framed⁣ it‌ as a Brooklyn farewell, he left the door open for future fights, stating there’s a “high chance” his‍ boxing career will ‌continue.
