Danny Garcia Ends Brooklyn Run with Fourth-Round Knockout, Hints at Continued Career
BROOKLYN, NY – Danny Garcia concluded his “Farewell to Brooklyn” card at Barclays Center with a dominant fourth-round knockout of Jose Gonzalez Saturday night, improving his record at the venue to 8-2. The victory came via a left hook, echoing Garcia’s 2012 win over Erik Morales at the same arena. Despite billing the fight as a farewell to Brooklyn, Garcia indicated a strong possibility of continuing his boxing career.
Garcia, 37, was the first fighter to headline a boxing event at Barclays Center in 2012. Thirteen years later, he delivered a similar finish against gonzalez, landing the decisive left hook in the same round. The win serves as a rebound for Garcia following a stoppage loss to Erislandy Lara in September 2024.
The fight saw Garcia quickly establish control,hurting Gonzalez in the opening minute. ”I noticed I hurt him, but for some reason, my timing fell a little bit off,” Garcia said.”So, I’m like, ’OK, let me just settle down for the next couple rounds and work behind my jab, and then when he stops moving his feet, I can try to catch him.'”
Gonzalez, moving up in weight for the first time above welterweight, proved unable to withstand Garcia’s pressure.The fight ended when Garcia connected with a flush left hook to Gonzalez’s chin.
“I already knew what he was trying to do,” Garcia stated. “Everybody thinks I’m flat-footed. They could just box around me like it’s easy, but when you’re in there with me, it’s a whole different ballgame.”
while Garcia promoted the event under his Swift Promotions banner and framed it as a Brooklyn farewell, he left the door open for future fights, stating there’s a “high chance” his boxing career will continue.
