Terry McLaurin Ruled Out for Commanders‘ Matchup Against Cowboys
LANDOVER, MD – Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys due to a lingering quad injury. While McLaurin initially showed optimism for a return after limited practice participation on Wednesday, he did not practice on Thursday and was observed on the field Friday without a helmet.
“It’s frustrating for him, because he’s working at it hard,” head coach Dan Quinn said after Friday’s practice. “It’s just not ready yet, and that sometimes happens when you have a soft tissue injury and you’re wanting it to get there. But you have to push it at the top speeds.”
McLaurin’s absence further strains the Commanders’ receiving corps, already impacted by Noah Brown’s placement on Injured Reserve. Second-year pro Luke McCaffrey has stepped up with three touchdowns in the last four games, and rookie Jaylin Lane recorded a 37-yard reception against the Chicago Bears on Monday. The team has also added veteran Robbie Chosen, and undrafted free agents Ja’Corey Brooks and Jacoby Jones to the practice squad as potential gameday elevations.
On Friday, the Commanders signed former first-round pick Treylon Burks to their practice squad, with Quinn stating the team is “excited to have Burks” and has a plan for his development, though he needs to learn the offensive system.
The Commanders also face uncertainty with wide receiver Deebo Samuel, listed as questionable with a heel injury after missing Wednesday and Thursday’s practices, though he did participate in some reps Friday.Samuel stated, “we’ll just have to see” when asked about his availability.
Additionally, guard Sam Cosmi (knee) and cornerback Jonathan Jones (hamstring) are potential returnees from Injured Reserve, both listed as questionable after a positive week of practice. Cosmi is nearing the end of his 21-day practice window, while Jones was designated for return this week.
Defensive end Dorance Armstrong (hamstring) and tight end zach Ertz (shoulder/calf) are also questionable. Jayden Daniels, Chris Rodriguez Jr., and Ale Kaho are confirmed to be available.
