Gaza Conflict: Israel Marks Ceasefire Line as Aid Delivery Remains Blocked

Gaza City/Jerusalem – As the fragile ceasefire continues to hold, Israel is ⁢taking steps to physically demarcate its current ⁣military positions within⁤ the Gaza Strip, while ⁣the delivery of desperately needed humanitarian aid remains stalled. These developments highlight the precarious situation facing Palestinians in Gaza, even amidst a temporary pause in fighting.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced today that he has ordered the Israel ⁣Defense Forces (IDF) to place physical markers along what is being referred to as the⁣ “Yellow Line.” This line represents the IDF’s retreated positions under the terms of the current ceasefire agreement.According ‍to a report in‌ The Times of Israel, Katz stated the ‌markers are intended as a clear warning to both Hamas militants adn gaza ‌civilians: any attempt to cross the line will be met with force. The IDF has reportedly killed several ⁢Palestinians in recent days, claiming they crossed the Yellow Line and presented a security threat.

The move to physically define the ceasefire line comes as the⁤ humanitarian crisis ‌in Gaza deepens. the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) reports it is indeed still awaiting authorization from Israeli authorities to deliver aid into the Strip.

“UNRWA has not yet been authorized to bring aid⁣ into Gaza. We haven’t⁤ been able⁤ to deliver humanitarian supplies as march,” Jonathan Flower, an UNRWA spokesperson, told the Italian newspaper Domani. Despite the blockage, the agency continues to operate within Gaza with a staff of approximately 12,000, providing essential services including primary medical care,⁢ water, sanitation, and waste removal.‍

Flower outlined four critical priorities for the people of Gaza: nutritious food to combat growing malnutrition, medical supplies for treating ‌injuries and illnesses, shelter materials as winter approaches, and fuel to power essential infrastructure like hospitals and water pumps. ‌”We have enough supplies in our warehouses in Jordan and‍ Egypt to support the entire ⁣population of Gaza for three months,” he stated, emphasizing the urgency of gaining access.

Before the war, UNRWA provided ⁤education to 300,000 students. While the agency briefly re-established ⁣over 450 ⁢temporary learning spaces during the truce, only 150 remain active today, serving around 10,000 students.⁣

Looking ahead, Flower stressed⁣ the vital role UNRWA will play in any future⁤ reconstruction and ⁤social recovery⁤ efforts. “The UN Secretary-General has been clear: no operation will be⁢ possible without UNRWA,” he said.
