LOS ANGELES, CA – Caterina Scorsone will be stepping away from her role as Dr. Amelia Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy,but the departure is not permanent. Scorsone is slated for a multi-episode sabbatical for her character,beginning wiht the show’s 450th episode,which aired Thursday,November 9th.
The temporary exit coincides with Kim Raver resuming her duties as Chief of Surgery, signaling a shift in the hospital’s leadership dynamic. While the news initially sparked concern among fans, TV Insider confirmed scorsone is not leaving the series entirely, but rather embarking on a storyline that will keep her off-screen for a period of time.
Amelia Shepherd has been a central figure on Grey’s Anatomy for 15 years, first appearing in Season 7 as the sister of derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). scorsone rejoined the cast in Seasons 8 and 10 before becoming a series regular in Season 11. throughout her tenure, the character has navigated personal struggles including sobriety, romantic relationships, motherhood, loss, and professional achievements, rising to Chief of Neuro and collaborating with Meredith Grey on research.
